Why did you get into cycling? What do you enjoy about it?

We offer MTB coaching & coached rides, we're based mainly in Afan South Wales & North Wales. We have 'private' coaching venues designed especially to progress our clients skills.

To develop your skills and confidence efficiently & quickly we use a modern formula of ignition, (thats your desire to improve) Master coaching (thats our bit!) Deep practice (some of this will be on the course but most of it will follow the course when your out riding) this all leads to enhanced skills & confidence in the shortest time possible.

Our coaching style is professional but always friendly & relaxed. We keep ratios small for high quality Skills coaching & we use video analysis on our sessions to ensure you get the most out of it.

Carbon Tyre Lever – light, stiff, strong, just does the job really well

Why did you get into cycling? What do you enjoy about it?

I’ve always had bikes. After getting bored of BMX, downhill & short course XC, I found my home in endurance mountain biking. This turned to singlespeed when I broke my thumb playing hockey & couldn’t use shifters – and I never looked back. Over the past 5 years this has gone from strength to strength, culminating in taking the 24hr singlespeed title in New Zealand in February 2016, whilst also finishing 6th overall. Singlespeeding makes you think a little more while riding – line choice & conservation of momentum, and there’s nothing better than passing the geared boys on the climbs!

    Interesting fact about you:

I actually have better sideburns than both Guy Martin & Wolverine, both of whom have modelled their appearance on me…

Discipline: Bikepacking, Singlespeed, and whatever has adventure written on it

    Favourite Fibrax Product:

I love the brake pads, and recently discovered the joys of lowering the weight of my gravel bike with lightweight rotors.

Why did you get into cycling? What do you enjoy about it?

I started cycling as a child, but then mostly stayed away from it growing up. It was at university that I re-discovered the joys of exercise, and after a short stint running long distances, I finally started cycling long distances, as that was way more exciting. In 2006 I did my first backpacking trip on the bike through the Scottish Highlands, and then moved to New Zealand to discover as much as I could of the country with a mountain bike. This is what really got me into adventure cycling, and I haven’t lost the passion for it. Cycling is the ultimate form of freedom to me, and moving to Scotland in 2009 I got into more serious distances, mostly on the road bike, cycling 424km from Edinburgh to the Isle of Skye at the most. 2010 marked the start of my singlespeed career, cycling various times home for Christmas, and in 2 days to the London Olympics from Edinburgh. In 2014 I discovered my love for off-road bikepacking, and finished the Highland Trail. In 2015 I again finished the Highland Trail, one day faster this time, and came fifth at the Capital Trail. And then went off to do a long lap, cycling 34,000km around the planet. Cycling has given me a lot of great memories, and enabled me to meet some great people, and that’s why I am now running Bikepacking Scotland, to encourage more people discovering their adventurous side.

    Interesting fact about you:

I worked as DJ for 12 years and ran a music festival for 5 years. Normally I connect great adventures with a particular song. Although I couldn’t take any music with me on the round the world trip, as I needed the space on my phone for filming, so for a year I was forced to listen to the Strathpuffer song and ‘Don’t dream it’s over’ from Crowded House.

Why did you get into cycling? What do you enjoy about it?

Been riding/playing/racing/bumbling about on mountain bikes since the 80’s with a period off to do the, rock n roll thing before falling back in love with all things bike. Found single speeding purely as a means to not destroy XTR kit on my nice bikes every autumn, winter, spring in Cannock Chase filth. It was cheaper to build a beater SS than replace expensive kit. Then found a perverse pleasure in getting inappropriate bikes in silly places and hooning through windy singletrack in a quiet non-chainslappy way. Sold all my expensive bouncy geared niche and replaced it with bendy tubed exotic niche with one gear instead.

    Interesting fact about you:

    • I’ve somehow gained a reputation for destroying bike components though brute force and ignorance.
    • I know how to get arsenic from a stuffed duck.
